The brand-new expansion for Path of Exile, Expedition, which has been out quite recently is making headlines across the community.

Another day, another expansion! The free-to-play ARPG made by Grinding Gear Games, Path of Exile, has yet another brand-new expansion called Expedition. It’s available to play right now and, of course, players can expect tons of new content. According to Grinding Gear Games themselves, there are significant updates that have been added to the Expedition expansion such as four new merchant NPCs to trade Exalted Orbs and PoE currency with, a flask system rework, and the Expedition Challenge League. There’s more meat on the bone besides what they’ve stated so far such as having 19 new Support and Skill Gems and item types to discover. But overall, there’s a lot to go over as to what players can expect in the latest expansion for Path of Exile. Find out what content awaits players by reading on down below.

Helping the Kalguur

The Expedition expansion centers around the artifact-hunting Kalguurs. Players are tasked to assist the Kalguur to find lost artifacts of their ancestors. To do that, they must rig up sites with the use of explosives and then detonate them strategically to find the precious antiquities. The locations of the artifacts are in expedition sites. It’s a fairly easy thing to do at first glance, but there’s a catch. The artifacts are still being held by fallen Kalguur warriors who rise as undead soldiers should players disturb their slumber. Players must be cautious not just in waking up the fallen Kalguur, but also in how they plan to set up their demolition charges. Of course, the expeditions that players will get into are bound to have treasures chests filled with PoE currency and Exalted Orbs. There’s also a chance for the chests to hold ancient ruined artifacts that can be traded to the four new merchant NPCs that we’ve mentioned previously.

Tweaks for Path of Exile: Royale

Unexpectedly, Grinding Gear Games also decided to make a couple of robust changes for the Path of Exile: Royale game mode. Poe: Royale first came to be during 2018 when it was initially announced as an April Fool’s gag. It used to be a temporary game mode for the ARPG where 100 players will face off in a last-man-standing match situated on a large island. While Grinding Gear Games only intended to poke fun at the other battle royale titles, the game mode soon became a reality because of how much of a hit it is. Make no mistake though, Path of Exile: Royale isn’t a permanent mode. According to the developers, the Royale mode has been re-worked from the ground up that features a better spectator mode, improved terrain, the addition of flask-refreshing troves, and the like.

We’re not entirely sure as to what GGG is planning, but the peculiar yet charming game mode is once again available to play every weekend until the end of the Expedition League. Seeing as Path of Exile 2 won’t be released until 2022, hopefully, this is enough content for the players to keep themselves entertained for the time being.

The Four New Merchants

We mentioned it before, but players can trade the artifacts that they manage to uncover in their expeditions to the four new merchants. Led by Dannig, Tujen the Haggler, Gwennen the Gambler, and Rog the Dealer each have their unique trading style. No doubt the hardest of the bunch that players have to deal with is undoubtedly Tujen as he likes to haggle the prices of how much players are planning to sell the artifacts. Then there’s Gwennen who likes to offer items whose properties are – for a lack of a better word – questionable at times during a trade. Rog, on the other hand, relies on the art of sweetening a deal to make a profit. All in all, players have to try their hardest in balancing a deal with the merchants so as not to piss them off.

Final Thoughts

A lot of the big changes that Grinding Gear Games has made for the Expedition expansion are mostly welcomed with open arms by the community. With more ways to build their characters, treasures to uncover, and new Gems to tinker around, players are hopeful that the latest League will ride the success train up until its end. Plus, who would forget about Path of Exile: Royale making a comeback once again? It’s not necessarily a great way to farm PoE currency or Exalted Orbs, but the Royale is just too fun and silly not to at least try once. What do you think of the Expedition expansion so far?
