Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a famous Hindi film director, screenwriter and musician from India. He was born on 24 February 1963 in a Gujarati Jain family in Bhuleshwar, south of Bombay. His father Naveen Bhansali is also a film producer. Sanjay’s mother is Leela Bhansali who used to work as a tailor to run the household.

The first film directed by Bhansali is Khamoshi which was released in 1996. Sanjay Leela Bhansali won the Filmfare Award for Best Film Khamoshi. Due to giving many hit films, Sanjay became famous in Hindi films. The historical romance Devdas, directed by Sanjay, was released in 2002 and became a blockbuster of that era, which received a BAFTA nomination for Best Film.

He has made his name as a producer of many hit films like Devdas (2002), Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013), Bajirao Mastani (2015), Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022).

Recently released Heeramandi (2024) is his first web series which is one of the blockbuster series of the year.

Bhansali started his film career as an assistant to Vidhu Vinod Chopra, being involved in the production of Parinda, 1942 A Love Story and Qarib. But due to differences of opinion between the two, this happened. Bhansali made his directorial debut outside the Chopra camp with Khamoshi: The Musical, a commercially unsuccessful but critically acclaimed story of a daughter’s struggle to communicate with her deaf-mute parents.

After some time, his next film “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” was released, which was very successful and won many awards. After Hiramandi, the audience is also eagerly waiting for Sanjay’s upcoming film “Love and War”, according to sources, the film is likely to be released in 2025.
