Hargitay admitted they never imagined the adoption would take place so soon. It appeared “divinely right,” and she accepted it instantly. Andrew developed a special connection with Amaya from the first moments.

Hargitay reported that Amaya grabbed Andrew’s hand in the crib and took care of him. She also called him “an angel that fell out of the sky” due to the unpredicted event. Andrew served as an inspiration for writing a children’s book by Hermann. He published If the S in Moose Comes Loose in 2018. According to Hermann, Andrew was especially attached to the book and always wanted to read it again.

He is their only biological child. Hargitay received her first Emmy Award several months after giving birth to him. She quipped during her speech that she decided to name him August not knowing that the month would end with her receiving the award.

He accompanied his mother to the SVU set when he was a baby. He grew up in New York City as Hargitay was filming the TV series. August always dreamed of having siblings. As stated by Hargitay in 2012, August requested to have a sister, and thus Amaya was born. He then requested a brother, and thus Andrew was born. Hargitay stated that August believed that the whole plan belonged to him. August held his mother’s star during the shoot.
