Because brine solutions contain ingredients such as salt, phosphates, sugars, and seasonings, residue can quickly build up inside the tank. Before cleaning begins, the brine tank should be completely drained. CIP systems circulate cleaning solutions through the tank, pumps, and piping while maintaining proper flow and temperature. This automated cleaning method ensures that all internal surfaces are reached and sanitized consistently. Even with CIP systems, operators should still periodically inspect the brine tank to ensure there is no hidden buildup or residue.

Proper attention should also be given to mixers, agitators, and recirculation lines connected to the brine tank. These components often come into direct contact with brine ingredients and may collect deposits if not cleaned thoroughly. During scheduled maintenance, processors should check for buildup around mixer blades, pump inlets, and filtration systems. Cleaning these areas ensures the brine tank continues to produce uniform and fully dissolved brine mixtures.

Another best practice is ensuring the brine tank is fully rinsed after cleaning. Any remaining detergent or sanitizer could affect the next batch of brine if it is not properly flushed from the system. After the cleaning process is complete, operators should perform a final rinse with potable water and visually inspect the tank interior for cleanliness.
